Herut’s Campaign Against an Absurd Law

Begin explains David Ben-Gurion’s Coalition Disciple Law which is a “new sub-section in the Transition Law which would regard a member of the Government as having resigned if his party in the Knesset voted against a Government motion.” Begin shares that a reason why the Herut Movement opposed this law is because it would make the Knesset responsible to the Government, instead of the reverse. Additionally, they argued that a Minister’s resignation would depend on Ben-Gurion’s mood. Begin shifts to discuss the important amendments Herut added to the law, and shares that parties who voted for the law no longer support it. Begin then argues that the reason for this law is to guarantee that Mapai will stay in power. He concludes that Mapai is fine with rights in theory, but not in practice.

Israel’s Democracy Endangered

Begin challenges the article in the “Jerusalem Post” that vaguely argues that Pinchas Lavon is against the army. Begin shares that the underlying cause of Lavon’s forced resignation and the article is because of David Ben-Gurion. Begin argues that Israel is a free state and Ben-Gurion’s actions are dangerous to the future of Israel’s democratic values. He concludes that Herut will do everything in their means to prevent Ben-Gurion’s covering up process.

Lavon Mystery

Begin relates the scandal and its reaction surrounding Pinchas Lavon to the response of when Abraham Stavsky, Abba Ahimeir and Zvi Rosenblatt were falsely accused of being responsible for the assassination of Haim Arlosoroff. Even after the proof that an injustice happened, because important public figures were showed to be connected to the assassination of Arlosoroff, the request for a committee of investigation was rejected. Additionally, only in the Lavon mystery, “Davar” and other independent newspapers did demand justice for the injustice done to Lavon. It is problematic that leaders and media of Israel believe that honor and justice are dependent on one’s political alignments. Begin, however, believes that it is a crucial duty to state the truth. Begin speaks about the triangular relationship between Lavon, Ben Gurion, and Sharett. Begin concludes that it is problematic that members of Mapai are capable of exploiting a fellow member of the party.

What are the Facts Behind Jerusalem’s Two Terrible Hours

Begin discusses his frustration with the Government’s responses to a recent attack in Jerusalem. First Begin criticizes Pinchas Lavon, the Minister of Defense. He explains Lavon’s mistakes and what he could have done to prevent the surprise attack. Additionally, Begin speaks about Moshe Sharret’s leadership and how the Government is killing its own nation in a sovereign way. Then Begin shifts to address multiple opportune moments Israel could have liberated more of the Homeland and ended “senseless bloodshed.” Begin concludes by comparing Israel’s Government to the Greek character Calipides.
