Strauss Visits Israel

Begin criticizes both David Ben-Gurion and Shimon Peres for happily hosting Herr Franz Josef Strauss, a former Nazi Education Officer who swore an oath of personal loyalty to Hitler. Begin shares what Strauss did during the Holocaust and how Strauss justified his and his soldiers’ actions. Begin praises Peres’ success in keeping the Israeli army well armed, and then urges Peres to change his attitude towards Israel-Germany relations. Begin argues that the German scientists in Egypt threaten Israel. Begin strongly disagrees with Peres comparing Israel-Germany relations to the relationship France and Israel have. To conclude, Begin explains why he and world leaders do not trust Germany.

Grievous Sin Against Posterity

Begin responds to David Ben-Gurion’s recent statement in which he accused Herut of praising Hitler. He starts off by providing examples of Ben-Gurion using his tongue against friends and close colleagues. Then Begin discusses “the season” in which Ben-Gurion cooperated with the British, in addition to the negative words Ben-Gurion called Etzel. Also, Begin shares Ben-Gurion calling Ze’ev Jabotinsky ‘Vladimir Jabotinsky Hitler.’ Begin then discusses the claim that Ben-Gurion’s statement was in response to Begin’s address to the Knesset about German scientists assisting Nasser. Begin continues to explain that Ben-Gurion’s statement has hurt Israel’s status on an international level. He concludes that Herut will continue to retaliate against “licentious statements and lying remarks” made against Herut.

Whoever Tries to Destroy Us Will Be Destroyed

Begin addresses the Knesset, urging them to come together against continued Israel-Germany relations. He first reminds his audience of what Germans did to Jews during the Holocaust, less than a generation ago. He shares that a year ago, when Herut found out that there were German scientists in Egypt, Herut initiated the campaign for Israel to demand Germany to remove their scientists from Egypt. However, Ben-Gurion claimed that the German government should not be held responsible for the scientists’ activities in Egypt. Begin declares what Israel has given Germany, and in return, Germany is assisting Egypt, Israel’s enemy. Begin concludes that Herut and other parties created a joint resolution, because “against our enemies we shall stand as one people.”

Israel’s German Sin

Begin addresses the relationship between Israel and Germany, as well as Germany’s relationship with Egypt. He first speaks of Israel taking Germany’s monetary bribe. Germans wanted to relieve themselves of guilt, so that only the National Socialists will remain guilty. Begin shares two examples of Germans in their “new” government, who played a major role in supporting the Nazis: Globke and Heusinger. He expresses frustration in the Government for not voicing their opposition towards Nazi-supporters being in Germany’s “new” government. Begin concludes with how Israel gives Germany Uzzis, uniforms, and teachers, and Germany has still not given Israel defensive weapons; Germany has, though, given Egypt German rocket scientists.

Flaws in the Peace Move

In the “Herut” newspaper, Begin argues that the draft of a UN resolution calling for direct negotiations between Arabs and Israel will not lead to positive results. There would be a stalemate in regards to the Arab refugee question. Furthermore, it would be a delusion of Arab nations recognizing Israel. To strengthen his argument, he references to the U.S. still refusing to recognize Communist China even after years of direct negations. He reminds his readers that an overwhelming majority of UN members opposed or abstained from voting for this resolution. With this, Begin concludes that such results show that the world accepts the irregular relationship between Arabs and Israel.
